This province is the country’s capital city, that the government
constantly tries to modernize and to make it safer for all who
visit it, be residents or visitors. Several of the main Costa Rican
museums are in this city. The better known is the National Museum,
located in the old "Cuartel Bellavista", in the capital east. In this
place, in 1948 the army was abolished by the president José Figueres
Ferrer, well-known affectionately for people as “Don Pepe”.
Besides the museums, San José's city has
places like the National Theater and Barrio Amón, architectural
jewels of the final of the XIX century and principles of the XX
century.
In this province is Cerro Chirripó, the highest place in Costa Rica,
3820 mts over sea level (12530 feet). When the sky is clear, you can see
both oceans, Atlantic and Pacific, from here.
In San José, there are more places for knowing: Escazú hills of,
Nauyaca waterfalls and Los Santos (the saints) area.
