Surf - Wind Surfing
Surf: Costa Rica has coasts
in the Atlantic Ocean (Caribbean Sea) and in the Pacific Ocean. In total our country has more
than 1200Km (700 miles) of coastal board where you can find a great quantity of places for
the practice of Surfing. Because Pacific coast is longest than the Atlantic, it offers more
different beaches appropriated for this sport. However, the Caribbean Costa also has ideal
places for the lovers of surfing as for example Puerto Viejo, and its famous Salsa Brava (Mean Sauce).
In Costa Rica’s northwest side, specifically in Guanacaste, are ideal places for practice windsurf. Either in the sea or in Arenal’s Lake, the lovers of this sport will enjoy their stay in the region.
Windsurf: The west point of Arenal’s Lake, is one of the most suitable places in the planet for windsurf. In fact it has been compared with the Garda Lake (Italy) and the George River in Columbia (United States). In summer, the wind can reach speeds of more than 50 Km/h (33 miles / hour), and that makes the lake’s surface to get choppy and produces wonderful waves for those experts in this sport.
Soley Port, to the north of Guanacaste, is recommendable for experts windsurfers. Papagayo`s Gulf is a good place for those with less experience, and also are other places where this sport can be practiced in the Central Pacific.
