Ostional Beach
Ostional (located in Nicoya's Peninsula), is
one of the most important ecological places in the whole world, because it is one of
the beaches where a huge number of olive ridley turtles spawn (From April to December).
In fact, this beach is part of the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge. This extensive
and wide black sand beach is witness of a spectacular natural phenomenon known as
"The Arribada" (The arrived). When it happens, thousands of turtles arrive to the
beach to leave their eggs. Those "Arribadas" generally occur between the third quarter
and full moon, especially from July to September.
For their strong surf, this beach is very appreciated by surfing lovers. Ostional also has an estuary that
the visitor can traverse in boat. This place, offers a simple but welcoming lodging and good food.
